President's Note

Dear YBAA Community,

Harvard-Yale is right around the corner, and the end of 2026 is upon us! We're looking forward to it, and we hope you are too. Check out the H-Y events below, and keep an eye on yaleblackalumni.com for any other event updates.

Aside from H-Y, we're still shaping programming for the year ahead and we're beginning to look for volunteers to join our YBAA National committees, where most of our work happens. More details can be found below, but we encourage you to get involved if you're able. We're hard at work finalizing our plans for 2027 and will be sharing more details in the coming months for more ways you can get involved.

As the year winds down, I hope the holidays are good to you and yours. Thank you, as always, for the time and care you bring to this community.

Yours in Black and Blue,

Ivuoma "Ivy" Onyeador, YC '11

Black Solidarity Conference 2027: And Still We Rise

For more than three decades, the Black Solidarity Conference has been a cornerstone of intellectual discourse and community building at Yale University, as well as at colleges and universities across the country. Originating as a small gathering to discuss issues facing the African Diaspora, it has grown into Yale's largest undergraduate conference, drawing over 700 participants from across the nation. The conference consistently provides a platform to analyze challenges within the Black community and explore innovative solutions that attendees can apply on their campuses.

In 2027, we turn our attention to a theme that asks us to learn from the systems, places, and people that came before us: And Still We Rise: Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future. This theme takes inspiration from the long history of education as both a site of exclusion and a pathway to liberation. It challenges us to confront the ways miseducation has been used to distort narratives, limit opportunities, and perpetuate injustice—while also reclaiming education as a radical tool for empowerment, resistance, and collective transformation.
